GUILD THEATREWORKS TO PRESENT SHAKESPEAREAN CLASSIC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SHAKESPEARE COMES TO BRICK

On August 13th at 6:00, the Cultural Arts Center on Herbertsville Road will be presenting its annual Shakespeare program “A Midsummer Night’s Dream:  Song, Speeches, and Sonnets of William Shakespeare.  There is no admission fee, but reservations are necessary by calling 732-262-1006.
This year’s program, produced by Bob Anstett with Ada Cole, and directed by Janet Lynn Spahr, features some of the Bard’s best known speeches as well as some which are rarely done in performance.  Mark Muller, who has appeared at the Center in his presentation one-man-show “Al Jolson”  as well as his piece based on Bram Stoker will be doing several soliloquies and sonnets including pieces from JULIUS CAESAR and HENRY V. He will also be singing a selection from the Shakespearean inspired musical KISS ME KATE as will Christine Van Pelt who delighted last year’s audience with a speech from the mischievous character Puck.  Joining Mark in his musical number with be Jeff Cahill, who is new to the Shakespearean program but who performed last winter in the Jersey Shore Arts Center production of 1776.  Three other cast members from that production are also performing  in this year’s production:  Stephen Addison, Ryan Lavalle, and Andrew Wilson.  These young men will be performing with Rebecca Haagland and Margaret Magnusson in several scenes from A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM as well as several soliloquies and sonnets.  The cast also includes newcomer Barbara DeFranza, making her debut at the Cultural Arts Center.
This is a unique opportunity for people of all ages to revisit or to experience for the first time one of the greatest playwrights in human history - a little bit of this, a little bit of that, but its all the Bard - “a man not of an age, but for all time.”
